Training Plan
With just 0 days to go you should be well into the taper. The hard work is done — protect it now.

This Week

  • 2–3 very short easy runs (15–20 min each)
  • Include 4–6 strides (20-second accelerations to race pace) on the final run before race day
  • Zero hard efforts
  • Race day: warm up for 10–15 min before the gun — unlike a marathon, a 5k/10k starts fast

Race Day Strategy

Start slightly slower than goal pace — the crowd energy will tempt you to sprint off the line, and you will pay for it by km 3. Settle into your rhythm in the first kilometre, build through the middle, and give everything in the final 500m.
Crowd caution: The start-line energy will tempt you to go out far too fast — don't. Stick to your plan. Your first kilometre should feel almost too easy, and that's exactly right.
